Livett’s

Independent Coffee Shop

What started as a passion project evolved into a freelance opportunity when I presented my hypothetical rebrand to Livett’s coffee shop. The upcoming Freshers Fairs provided the perfect opportunity to incorporate some fresh designs into their promotional materials.

Architect R.A.H. Livett was commissioned by the council to create affordable housing in the Quarry Hill area, which had been identified as one of the most deprived areas in Leeds. Drawing inspiration from the Karl Marx Hof in Vienna, the Quarry Hill Flats emphasised community by incorporating shared communal spaces. Unfortunately, due to challenges with the building system and the urgency to address housing shortages, the estate fell into disrepair and in 1973 the decision was made to demolish the flats. Today, the site is home to the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Quarry House.

Livett’s coffee shop embraces the ideals of community and sustainability, aiming to bring people together, which is why it proudly bears the architect's name.

Who is Livett?

The logo captures the cosy, inviting spirit of Livett's with a fun and playful illustration that pays homage to both Livett and the Quarry Hill Flats. It showcases an animated coffee cup cheerfully strolling in front of the iconic arches of the former Quarry Hill Flats, now home to Livett's. The addition of hanging plants enhances the warm, homely atmosphere, perfectly reflecting the coffee shop's charming aesthetic.
